I decided to do this scene because it's one I really like, and I knew it would be a challenge for me. There are 10 people in the scene, 6 of which are speaking parts. Most of the things I have directed have had only 2 characters, and most do not have any dialog. I wanted to learn more about how complex scenes like these are handled, so I decided I would focus on the placement of the camera, the framing, and the blocking more than anything else. I feel I learned quite a bit about staging, and maintaining eye-lines, continuity, and multiple lines of conversation. I think I have a bad habit of rushing when I shoot, and that leads to mistakes and sloppiness. The biggest mistake I made with this scene was I missed one of Patrick Bateman's lines. It really throws the scene off at one point. I think that overall, the framing, timing, and blocking are fairly true to the original.

  1. DP reflection: it was really a great experience to get to work with Danny. He had his shots listed out very clearly and I felt very confident working under him because I knew exactly what he wanted. He was very good at keeping the shoot running and things went smoothly.
