In this short film, a man is confronted by his own sexual urges in human form. He panics, and begins to flee, but the sexual urges give chase and eventually catch him. In a last ditch effort to escape, he clobbers his pursuer with a rock, then begins to devour his body. I made this film because I believe that when a person tries to flee or destroy their own sexuality, they often end up with more problems than they would have if they could find a way to negotiate with, and healthily express their sexuality.
Although the subject matter of the film is pretty serious, I wanted the film to be humorous, so I encouraged the actors to be over-the-top in their performances. I chose to show the protagonist in flat space and often with an LDS Church in the background to evoke a morally conservative state of mind, and to make his running seem futile. The the human embodiment of his sexuality is rendered in deep space with a fisheye lense to enhance his presence and movements and give an open, expansive feel to the image. In general, the shots of the pursuer tend to be more saturated, and higher contrast than the shots of the protagonist, though his shots also becomes more saturated and higher contrast towards the end of the film, to increase the visual intensity and show that he is being affected by his pursuer.
I used the LDS chapel as a symbol of a moral paradigm. The protagonist flees towards the chapel when he feels threatened. I also intended the steeple to function as a phallic symbol. I hope I don't get condemned for that.
